About Jon Brindley
I’d like to the
think I’m the sort of performer who could totally change your perception of how
things can be done! I’m proud of being from Wigan and, at 35, have performed in
piano bars, at some of the larger folk festivals, art galleries, country
festivals, pubs, arts centres, old people’s homes, on
street corners and café terraces all over Europe.
Having sung and played
guitar, piano and fiddle since childhood, I’ve explored music through many
forms. Celtic fiddle tunes, blues, contemporary folk, country, rock, popular
songs and traditional ballads can all be picked out of my repertoire – these
being most usually my own unique interpretations. I like to take my audience on
a lively journey, bringing passion and humour to
music. Expect the unexpected!
My songs can take you to
places that people might not always notice and after the feeling that brings
the creation of a song I want to recreate the atmosphere and spark of that
moment, while each performance brings something new…
It’s often noted that I can
be completely self-sufficient in my guitar playing as I layer bass lines and
lead phrases upon the colours of chord progressions. Rhythm is a natural,
primitive communication and I listen within for the steady solid beat to get
through to you. John Hullah made my guitar and it’s
been an intimate companion on so many travels and through so many trials. As
for my fiddle, it was handed down from my Grandma and I’ve lived in both
My influences is a big
subject but to put a few down they include The Beatles, The Waterboys, Buffy
Sainte Marie, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Dick Gaughan,
Sandy Denny, Yvon Agbo
(Lyon), Paul Brady, BB King, Victor Jara, Richard
Thompson, Alisdair Fraser, Martin Simpson, Jacques Brel, Joni Mitchell, Bob Marley, Jethro
Tull, Woody Guthrie, Billy Morrisson
(Inverness) and Kevin Burke.
Through music and
performing I can find a way of reliving and celebrating my experiences and when
I see mirrored the pain and joy of these experiences it gives me hope. As
I walk towards many horizons, spreading a smile and an honest message of hope
is what I live for…
