Here follows some things that people have
said about me in magazines and such…
Jon himself played
up something of a storm… I never fail to be impressed by the dedication and passion
that Jon puts into his performances, the music just seems to burst out of him
somehow, and his passion and energy seem completely unflagging. For my money,
he deserves to be right up there with the biggest names in the business.

Jon
sings with such a passion and energy that you think he can’t keep going at that
pace for the whole evening, but he does. He’s never quiet, never still,
always moving the music forward. Stan Jones ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’ probably
best remembered from
Don Moore - Garstang Unplugged 2006
“Jon
Brindley is a songwriter with a true eye and ear for the people and places
around him. The eloquence of his lyrics is matched by a fine singing voice and
the elegant musicianship of an artist who understands that, as in life, the
silences in between are often as important as the sounds themselves. This is a
fine collection and these songs and the man behind them deserve to be heard
widely.”
Colum Sands -
Internationally well known and respected Irish singer songwriter musician and
radio presenter - on a collection of my songs including most from “Crossing the
Distance”
The
calm serene Jon mounted the stage and became the perspiring bundle of energy we
expect when he is on stage. With his left hand flying up and down the frets Jon
sounded as though he'd been joined on stage by at least two other guitar
players as he pounded out driving songs and melodically interpreted others.
Jon's own ‘There was a Twinkle’ in his Eye is one of the best descriptions of
what drives people to write songs. Jon also interprets other people's songs
with Woody Guthrie's Tom Joad standing out from a
superb performance from beginning to end.
Simon Goodyear – Coppull Festival review 2006
Crossing
the Distance features an eclectic mix of delightful, self-penned songs and
covers, often backed by exquisite guitar.
Jon’s own compositions evoke the likes of
Paul Brady and Don McLean…………there’s even a nod to his Wigan roots with an
intriguing – though barely recognisable –rendition of
George Formby’s Standing on the Corner of the Street.

‘I was a Brindley virgin until Saturday
night and had no idea what to expect …’ ‘…then something strange and rather
nice began to happen and I was mesmerised until the
end of the set. Just goes to show that you shouldn't judge on first
impressions! The man and his guitar are capable of great things. Catch him if
you can - I'll certainly be in the front row next year’.
Sylvia Green, Otley Festival internet page
‘The biggest surprise was
Jon Brindley, who was not a booked artist as far as I am aware, but played remarkable
guitar, sang, played the fiddle and impressed everyone who heard him. Watch out
for that name.
‘Jon Brindley is an
excellent musician, who we have highlighted before as a newcomer, but who seems
to be establishing himself more and more as a performer. When we first saw him,
his excellence as a musician shone through, but now he has the stage presence
to actually make the recovery from a very rare mistake into an event that holds
your attention, and generates that "wow, how did he make that happen"
reaction.’

‘Although a newcomer to the festival, Jon Brindley was the name on
everyone's lips, his sheer stage presence and dynamism held audiences spellbound,
his name is sure to spread rapidly…’
‘Jon Brindley, who I
mentioned in the Chester Folk Festival review (Issue 25), impressed me yet
again with his down to earth humour, powerfully
sensitive vocals and guitar expertise.’

‘He
is a lovely singer and a terribly impressive guitarist, with an uncanny knack
of turning tired old standards into fresh irresistible performances.’
Maggie Boyle in Tykes News
‘Jon is a very subtle, sympathetic accompanist who suits Maggie's
singing style admirably. It was a pity, though that we only had one set of
tunes on the fiddle - maybe more next time, Jon? ……with
Maggie and Jon storming to a great finish!’

‘Straight away, right from the first song
that Jon played, we knew we were in for a treat. His confident, distinctive style combined with an amazing guitar style were really
impressive…..
When Jon attempted to finish his set, the
room practically erupted and he was then persuaded to do two encores. Even so
we were all left wanting more… …book
him as soon as possible.’
Chris Mcilveen in Folk
Brindley is no mean songwriter; he’s also
capable of providing a fresh take even on well worn club favourites
such as Twa Recruitng
Sergeants and Spanish Lady, and his interpretation of Guthrie’s ‘Deportees’ is
quite outstanding.
