Winter Skies (words + music - Jon Brindley)
The frost had fallen on the rolling country,
we were driving home from a friend we'd seen
In through the window December's cold air was
freshening our faces and our thoughts in there
We stopped down by the river for the last of
the day, my brother went walking and I did stay
A far away feeling had left me behind, I was
trying to make sense of it in my mind
I turned the button to hear the sound, the
politicians were passing the buck around
But who passed it to them and where does it
end? Do we ever put our feet on solid ground?
I put in the plastic that I had brought and
Buffy sang to me straight from the heart
The terrible story of her native land she
was calling on me to understand
There's a voice to be heeded, a strength
to be felt
There's a mould to be broken, a hardness
to melt
There's a cause to be stood for, a heart
to be known
There's a chance to be given for love to
grow…
He came back and we travelled on, we were
talking 'bout the world and what's going wrong
In the final splendour of winter's first day
we saw the sun going down on man's wasteful way
Then the pale, shimmering colours of the
light were keeping the flame of beauty in sight
A reminder of heaven, before the dark night,
it won't be too long before reality bites
There's a voice to be heeded, a strength
to be felt
There's a mould to be broken, a hardness
to melt
There's a cause to be stood for, a heart to be known
There's a chance to be given for love to
grow…
